Operational Services Training to CSSTEAP members
on 17 October, 2024, Organized by
International Training Centre for Operational Oceanography (ITCOocean), ESSO-INCOIS,
Hyderabad, India

Overview

The current course will provide exposure to the trainees from “Centre for Space Science And Technology Education In Asia And The Pacific” (CSSTEAP), IIRS, Dehradun attending training program at NRSC, Hyderabad on the various products and services developed by INCOIS for various operational requirements. INCOIS has been using various remote sending products from both Indian and foreign satellites for generating and disseminating operational services. Sea Surface Temperature & Ocean Colour data is used for issuing services like Potential Fishing Zones, Harmful Algal Blooms, Coral Bleaching, Marine Heat Waves, and assimilation into ocean models. Using the wind data from remote sensing, regular ocean state forecasts (winds, waves, currents, tides) covering the geographical region of interests is also provided routinely, for movement of their ships, boats etc. Also, INCOIS has ground station through which temperature and ocean colour data is obtained. The training was intended to provide information on various services that are being generating disseminated to various stake holders. Hands on to use products will also be imparted as a part of this training. Apart from these, they will be exposed to the Indian Tsunami Early Warning Services and instruments used for obtaining in situ data from the ocean. This will be helpful to the participants, who are working in various operations of their respective counties. The course is designed to be a mix of Lab visits and theoretical sessions, covering the areas of interest.
