INDIAN ARGO PROJECT : THE PROJECT ORGANISATION

  • The Department of Ocean Development will be the nodal organization of the programme. The overall responsibility for the implementation of the Indian Argo Float Programme at the Institute level will be that of the Indian National Centre for Ocean Information Services (INCOIS), Hyderabad.
  • In addition to coordinating with the participating Institutes, INCOIS shall be specifically responsible to establish the necessary data reception, dissemination and communication systems and interface with other National and International Agencies for exchange of data and data products.
  • TheNational Institute for Ocean technology (NIOT), Chennai shall be responsible for procurement, development, technology acquisition, assembly, integration, calibration, productionisation, deployment, operation and maintenance of Argo floats.
  • The Centre for Ocean and Atmosphere Sciences (CAOS) at the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore shall be responsible for organizing and implementing all the scientific/modelling activity of the programme in India and in coordinating with other National agencies like IMD, NIO, IITs, IITM, NIOT, NPOL, DRDO Institutions, Academic and related other institutions for promoting the application of data.
