Overview:

This course is being organized to develop capacity of Small Island Developing States (SIDS) from the Indian Ocean and the IO Rim countries incl. GOOS Members, POGO members, etc to making use of ocean observations for coastal applications. The training is envisaged to contribute to the proposed outcomes of Ocean Decade on "A Predicted Ocean" and "A safe Ocean”.

Aims and Objectives:

  • To provide the trainees with extensive theory and hands-on to various ocean observatories
  • To impart the know-how from INCOIS and partner organization's experience and case-studies on how to put ocean observations to use for coastal applications
  • To equip trainees with expertise on development of operational ocean information and advisory services.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Knowledge and understanding to the ocean observations and it’s intertwining to the operational information and advisory services.

Target Audience:

Target audiences include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Postgraduate students.
  • Staff and researchers working on ocean observations and its applications
  • Marine industry professionals

Course Pre-requisites:

  • Candidates should have a basic knowledge of marine properties and parameters and preferably be working in institution which has access to marine observations
  • Seaworthiness (part of the training i.e., field sampling will be on a boat)
  • Working knowledge of English.
  • Participants should preferably bring their own laptops.

Tentative announcement of selected participants: 24 November 2023
Training Dates: 29 January – 07 February 2024

Course Fees :

There are no fees for this course

Fund support:

  • Limited support is available for participants.
  • Preference will be given to participants who seek partial support and co-fund their training with other source(s).
  • Participants who seek support need to clearly choose option for support and provide details on co-funding at relevant section of the application.
  • Organizers will arrange for all trainees, one-way transportation to Visakhapatnam (Vizag) and accommodation for two-three nights at no-cost to the trainees.
  • INCOIS provides opportunity to the trainees to participate in the Indian Ocean regional Ocean Decade conference coinciding the duration of the training, by extending it’s in-kind support for accommodation and food at par of the training days.
