Overview:

Understanding of fishery oceanography is needed by many young researchers. This course is devised, to familiarize the young professionals with the latest developments in this field. The UN have proclaimed 2021-30 as decade of ocean science for sustainable development and one of the important challenges identified under it is to feed global populations sustainably while ensuring health of the marine ecosystems.

Aims and Objectives:

  • To make the participants thorough with various aspects of oceanography.
  • To develop understanding of influence of oceanographic processes to the fisheries.
  • To familiarize participants with various tools/approaches being used by researchers in this field.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Knowledge and understanding to the topic of fishery oceanography and tools.

Target Audience:

  • This course is exclusively designed to train the fisheries professionals.
  • Relevant professionals from the Indian Ocean-rim (IOR) countries are highly encouraged to apply.
  • However, applicants are NOT restricted to IOR. For the full list of eligible countries, refer the application link below.

Course Pre-requisites:

  • Candidates should have a fundamental knowledge of marine biology (fisheries).
  • Seaworthiness (part of the training i.e., field sampling will be on a boat)
  • The medium of instruction is English, hence good working knowledge of English is a must.
  • Participants should bring their own laptops and preferably their own datasets.

  • Training Dates: 18 January – 07 February 2024
