SIVAS is an innovative coastal inundation forecasting system currently developed for the Kerala coast to forecast inundation caused by swell surges or Kallakkadal in the local language. Kallakkadal events are characterised by long-period swells that can inundate coastal areas even under calm local wind conditions, often catching communities by surprise and causing flooding of low-lying coastal settlements, damage to houses, among other impacts.
