Course Overview:


Women stand at the frontlines of environmental and climate change, bearing its heaviest burdens while leading powerful responses. This workshop brings together academicians, scientists, practitioners, and students to examine how climate and environmental transformations are shaped by gender and social inequalities. Through an intersectional and interdisciplinary lens, it explores women’s lived experiences, heightened vulnerabilities, and transformative roles in adaptation, resilience, and collective action, paving the way for more inclusive, just, and sustainable futures.


Aims and Objectives:


  • To examine environmental and climate change as gendered and socially differentiated processes.
  • To analyse the interlinkages between livelihoods, environmental change, and structures of profit, power, and patriarchy.
  • To document and foreground women’s leadership, collective actions, and community-based practices.
  • To promote dialogue between social sciences and natural sciences, particularly ocean and environmental sciences.

  • To generate insights for gender-responsive and inclusive environmental governance.

Learning Outcome:


  • Strengthened interdisciplinary understanding of gendered dimensions of environmental and climate change.
  • Recognition and documentation of women’s experiences, leadership, and collective practices.
  • Policy-relevant recommendations for gender-responsive environmental and climate governance.
  • Enhanced collaboration among social scientists, natural scientists, practitioners, and institutions.

Target Audience:


  • The seminar is intended for academicians, researchers, students, practitioners and policy professionals working in gender studies, social sciences, environmental and climate sciences, development, and disaster risk reduction. It is particularly relevant for those engaged in women’s empowerment, livelihoods, community development, environmental governance, and climate resilience, and is open to participants from academia, government, NGOs and community organizations.

Funding:


Participation support is available for students on a first-come, first-served basis, subject to the availability of funds. Priority will be given to eligible student and researchers.

With extensive and diverse experience in oceanography and allied fields, they bring academic, re-search, and practical insights to the programme, ensuring a rigorous and multidisciplinary learning experience.
