INCOIS is a leading institute in the field of operational oceanography with a specific objective to provide oceanographic information and advisories to the public. The services of INCOIS are supported by focused in-house research and development activities. INCOIS also ties up with sev-eral national and international oceanographic institutes to improve the quality of its services. Major research activities in INCOIS include ocean observation, ocean modelling, ocean data assimilation, data analysis, satellite oceanography, coastal vulnerability studies, potential fishing zone identifica-tion and studies related to water quality, tsunami and storm surges. INCOIS is the National Oceano-graphic Data Centre which collects/gathers and archives large amounts of oceanographic data that are vital for operational and research activities. INCOIS possesses world class research infrastruc-ture that includes state-of-the-art High Performance Computational facility, and a well equipped library. INCOIS is a recognized research centre of University of Hyderabad, Andhra University, Kerala University of Fisheries and Ocean Studies, Mangalore University, Jawaharlal Nehru Techno-logical University (Hyderabad). For the past several years, INCOIS has been providing opportunity for masters and graduates students to carry out their academic projects in a wide range of subject specializations including physical/biological/bio-geo-chemical oceanography, ocean modeling, ocean observations, tsunami and storm surge studies, disaster management, potential fishing zone services, GIS/ remote sensing applications/ computer sciences/ satellite communications/ instrumentation etc. under the guidance of our experienced faculty members. This programme is providing students an excellent understanding of the state-of-the-art research and development activities related to oceanography and ocean services.
Those who are interested to carry out their academic projects at INCOIS in the academic year 2020-21 may apply online by visiting https://incois.gov.in/jobs/AcademicProjects/home.jsp on or before 31st October 2020. Number of seats available for academic projects in different subjects will vary depending on the availability of mentors. Selected candidates may carry out their academic project between 1 December 2020 and 31 August 2021. Due to the prevailing COVID-19 pandemic situation, students will be encouraged to carry out their academic projects by taking advice from their mentors through suitable online modes with shorter visits to INCOIS, if required. It is expected that the selected students will have minimum infrastructure such as a laptop/desktop and a working internet connection at their end.
