Brief Description (Abstract):

Installation, commissioning of an INMARSAT maritime satellite terminal and installation of an ERNET node over the satcom were the assigned tasks. In addition to this, experimental internet connectivity, installation of an ethernet based local area network, configuration of a weather server were carried out successfully.

Purpose: INMARSAT is a 72 member co-operative organisation with headquarters x in London. INMARSAT offers communication services to the mobile users around the globe. INMARSAT operates in four ocean regions namely Atlantic O c e a n Region East (AOR-E), Indian Ocean Region (IOR), Pacific Ocean Region (POR) and Atlantic Ocean Region West (AOR-W). An INMARSAT communication neceessarily involves the Mobile, the Satellite and the Land Earth Station (LES). A land earth station provides the interface to National or International Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN). INMARSAT has a wide range of mobile terminals?Standard-A, Standa r d - B , Standard-C and Standard-M. Users can have a choice on the basis of service required and the space/weight limitation. The terminal can be either l a n d based or maritime, based on the application. Standard-A and Standard-B h a v e an option of High Speed Data (HSD) connectivity.
