Inertial motion in the Baltic Sea, superimposed on a slow northwestward drift. Cross marks along the particle path indicate noon and midnight.
The water received a "push" (probably produced by a wind burst of several hours) some time after 17 August. It is then seen to move on circles. Friction reduces the inertial circles, until the inertial motion has nearly did away on 24 August.
