Brief Description (Abstract):

The Global Seamounts Project is a multidisciplinary, international initiative to conduct deep-sea research expeditions on selected seamounts in the Indian Ocean, in addition to sites in the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans, to comprehensively survey these highly biodiverse marine ecosystems. Sustained ship operations will be enabled by Global Oceansâ MARV research ship model. Expedition data will uniquely populate a project-assembled ensemble of leading ecosystem models to generate future productivity and sustainability outcomes driven by modeled human and climate impact scenarios. The new model ensemble will help to understand ecological âtipping pointsâ and optimum marine conservation strategies. The project will utilize Global Oceansâ 6,000-meter ROV, the Explorer 6000 OEV, to be rebuilt for the project as an advanced system for deep-sea sampling and observations.
