In the presence of time varying irregularities in ionospheric degrades the performance of the GPS receiver. During the 26th ISEA (Indian Scientific Expedition to Antarctica), the effect of ionospheric irregularities on GPS performance were studied. This includes, standalone GPS receiver positioning at Maitri, a real time kinematic position on board ship in auroral storm region. The study shows strong evidence of ionospheric activity affecting GPS performance in high latitude during auroral storm period.
