About 1000 sq km area bounded by Longitudes 5?00' and 5?45' East and Latitudes 71?45' and 72? 10' South was covered during the austral summer of 2002-03. The study area lies more than 170NM WSW of Maitri station and the fieldwork was carried out using helicopters by taking droppoints in the area. The present area occurs in the western part of Muhlig-Hofmann Mountains. Coarse-grained chamockite dominates the northern portion of the area while the central and southern portions expose coarse, poiphyritic granite. Banded gneisses occur in the southwestern part and as enclaves/rafts within the granitoids.
