Due to its extreme weather system, and unique geo-location around the South Pole, it is one of the last frontiers for the human race. Medical research in recent years has focused on the life-style of Antarctic expeditionary members, exposed to harsh environmental and psychological conditions over a prolonged period of time [1]. The Antarctic milieu comes with extreme cold, intense UV radiation, white-outs, varying magnetic fields, sleep deprivation, altered circadian biorhythms, memory loss, and isolation - causing significant physiological and psychological stresses [2-4]. The present study was conducted on Antarctic expeditioners who were the part of 28th Indian Scientific Expedition to Antarctica (InSEA) from December 2008 to March 2009 (summer team members) and December 2009 (winter team members).
