The system has been continuously upgraded in terms of data usage, assimilation and forecasting system. Prasad et al (2011) upgraded it to a horizontal resolution of T574 (about 22 km) with 64 levels in vertical. The assimilation scheme of this upgraded system is based on the Grid Statistical Interpolation (GSI) scheme and it has the provision to use most of available meteorological and oceanographic satellite datasets besides conventional meteorological observations. All these modifications have resulted in improvement of skill of medium range forecasts by about 1 day (Prasad V.S., Mohandas S., Dutta S.K. et al., 2014). Taking this improvement into consideration a 20 year retrospective analysis (NGFS Reanalysis) for the period 1999 to 2018 is carried out using this 2011 version of NGFS model and analysis scheme.
