Brief Description (Abstract):

During the XXV expedition 60 soil samples were collected from different localities of Schirmacher Oasis, Antarctica. It includes mosses, lichen and sediment samples. The soil samples were processed to isolate microbes. These microbes were further fermented in different media and metabolite extract library was prepared. The metabolite extracts were evaluated for their biological activity in therapeutic areas such as anti-infective, anticancer and anti-inflammation. The promising extracts were subjected for chemical investigation to isolate bioactive principles.

Purpose: In the present study we are presenting the work done at Piramal Life Science limited for the resource samples collected from Antarctic region in XXV expedition in collaboration with National Center for Antarctic and Ocean Research. Microbes isolated from different habitat from Antarctica were cultured in the laboratory conditions. Microbial studies were carried out with the purified isolates. These microbial isolates were explored for their therapeutic potentials.
