Brief Description (Abstract):

During summer season o f Antarctic weather, southern pole Skua was monitored, for ecological aspects. Likenesting, chick feeding, food habits, behavior against harsh environment habits, and habitat were considered. Fecal matters o f some species were collected during the observation period on Schirmacher oasis. Later on, it was analyzed microscopically for protozoan parasites. Habits o f Skua were observed for parasite force behavior. Certain adlib observations are added.

Status: Completed

Purpose: Studies on the ecology of parasites are relatively not much focused. Parasites are seen to influence several aspects of host ecology. Parasites can potentially affect population growth of species, host competition and coexistence, predator prey relationship, evolution of sex and secondary sexual characters, inbreeding in host species, gregariousness and sociality etc. The study of parasites and parasitic diseases is important for management and conservation of wild life. A number of studies are restricted to the listing of parasites detected in faecal samples, while others remaui unpublished or inaccessible.
