Brief Description (Abstract):

The study deals with faunal diversity in Antarctica and Voyage route during the XVIII Indian Expedition to Antarctica, 1998-99. It was observed that some of the seabirds, particularly Skuas, encountered during the Expedition have also been reported from the Indian region which is significant zoogeographical point of view. Further, during a brief stop over in Mauritius Island an attempt was m a d e to stud its fauna and interestingly some common Indian birds were sighted there.

Purpose: To study various faunal groups in Schirmarcher Oasis (Antarctica), during the voyage and at Mauritius island.
