Brief Description (Abstract):

The Hydrographic Survey of India Bay, Antarctica HI/NHO/01/2003?04 was undertaken during the XXIII expedition from 05 Dec 03 to 30 Mar 04. A total of 310 nautical miles of sounding was carried out by the expedition team. Apart from the bathymetric survey, current, salinity and sound velocity observations were also carried out during the expedition at various places. CTD probe was employed for data collection for the first time during the survey. The 150 NM ice shelf around the India Bay was delineated using System GPS 200 on Kinematic in the Fly mode. Meteorological observations were also carried out during the survey.

Status: Completed

Purpose: Horizontal control for the entire survey was established in WGS 84 Datum and plotted on Mercator Projection with scale true at 66? S. GPS coordinates as directly obtained from the ship fitted GPS ?Trimble Navtrac XL? were used for sounding. No control was established for this purpose. However, the output of the ship fitted GPS set was compared with the Leica GPS 200 available with the survey team and positions were found to be acceptable.
