Brief Description (Abstract):

In these presents the information on birds observed during the XXI st Indian Scientific expedition to Antarctica. Total 26 species of birds were observed during onward voyage between 50? 19' to 69? 51' Latitude (S) & 10? 05' to 16? 00' Longitude (E) and return voyage from 68? 07? to 37? 58' Latitude (S) & 18? 06' to 28? 06' Longitude(E). The distribution, habit and abundance at various locations were also incorporated. The observations on South Polar Skua were also recorded in Schirmacher Oasis. Their habit, nesting sites and population in Schirmacher Oasis was also studied.

Purpose: The Antarctic water supports rich diversity of seabirds. These birds include pelagic or free-ranging species such as albatrosses and petrels and Coastal species on the contrary forage close to the shore, and among them are skuas, cormorants, terns and sheath bills. A total 26 species of seabirds were recorded during the onward voyage from 50? 19 to 69? 51 Latitude (S) &amp 10? 05 to 16? 00 Longitude (E) and during return voyage from 68? 07 to 37? 58 Latitude (S) &amp 18? 06 to 28? 06 Longitude (E) .38? S to 60? S latitude.
