Sea surface temperature in the region of the Ouessant (Ushant) front along the French coast during neap tide (left) and during spring tide (right). The region shown reaches from the south western end of England (Lands End and Scilly Islands) at the top to France (Brest and the island of Ouessant) at the lower right. Offshore waters are warmer than 18°C; waters around Ouessant are colder than 13°C (cyan) and colder than 12°C (blue). The front is centred on the 16°C isotherm and can be identified by the clustering of the 14 -
17°C isotherms. These isotherms are much closer to the French coast
during neap tide than during spring tide.
