NOAA14 SST mosaic for the week 7 - 13 August 1998. The approximate cruise track is superimposed white and the 200 m isobath is shown black. The observations along this track were made approximately one week after the image was taken.

The image gives a detailed impression of the southward protrusions of warm water from the shelf. Most of the warm water found in Legs 7 - 14 originates on the shelf. Further south temperatures get very low indcating the transition into the subpolar region.
