This leg runs approximately west-east along 43°S. It proves that the STF is not continuous around Tasmania during winter but runs into the continental slope of western Bass Strait (see Leg 11).

Isotherms and isohalines are mainly horizontal across most of the transect. An indication of warm, saline water is seen towards the end of the transect near the shelf. This is associated with southward flow beneath the surface, possibly the outflow from the termination region of the STF further north.
