By returning to the warm water eddies which spin off from the warm water found on the continental shelf this leg identifies the location of the STF again. It is found at km 300.

Core properties of the STF at 140°E are:
temperature: 12° - 13°C
salinity: 35.1 - 35.4
density: 26.55 - 26.60

This gives the same temperature range as found in the west but higher salinities and densities. The temperatures and salinities on the subpolar side of the STF are both lower than in the west, most likely as a result of the more southern location of the transects as the voyage approaches Tasmania.
