2. There are dozens of sites on El Niño on the web; here is a selection:
   • The El Niño Theme page of the Pacific Marine Environmental Laboratory PMEL of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration NOAA of the USA is the best starting point but overwhelms with choices.
   • The El Niño page of the same site has background information, excellent illustrations and animations.
   • The real time data site for the Tropical Atmosphere Ocean / Triangle Transocean (TAO/TRITON) buoy network gives the Southern Oscillation Index for the 20 years leading up to last week and mean wind and sea surface temperature for last week.
   • Versiones españolas: NOAA/PMEL also provides a list of Spanish web sites on El Niño.
   • NOAA provides a range of El Niño animations. (All animation files are quite large.)
   • The "Long Paddock", a web site of the Department of Primary Industries and the Department of Natural Resources of Queensland, Australia, gives the Southern Oscillation index, sea surface temperature and Australian rainfall up to the previous month.
