The IIOE-2 efforts under Data and Information Management are primarily directed at supporting individual science plans as well as the overall IIOE-2 program goals, by encouraging early sharing of data using internationally agreed rules of data exchange. In this respect, the IIOE-2 Implementation Strategy has specified a set of key objectives with action items, as specified below:

  • To agree on an IIOE-2 common data exchange policy for data collected under IIOE-2.
  • Agree on a list of core measurements (and associated data types and units) for IIOE-2 scientific activities
  • Agree on sampling and analytical protocols and metadata structure.
  • Agree on quality control/quality assurance procedures for all data types
  • Agree on modalities for, and enable the dissemination of data.
  • Agree on modalities and establish a mechanism for the long-term preservation of IIOE-2 data.
  • Publication of research results
  • Develop ancillary information systems associated with IIOE-2 research.
  • Develop and update data and information management capacity.
  • Establish a Regional Coordination Unit for IIOE-2 Data and Information Management at INCOIS, Hyderabad.

The coordination of the various activities under this Working Group has been mandated to a Committee co-chaired by Mr. E. Pattabhi Rama Rao (pattabhi@incois.gov.in) of INCOIS, Hyderabad, India and Dr. Harrison Ong'Anda (honganda@kmfri.co.ke) of the Kenya Marine and Fisheries Research Institute (KMFRI), Mombasa.
